Great reads...

I like to read...all kinds of books....
I was introduced to an amazing author this summer..Francine Rivers..she has been around a while, and how I did not hear about her before I do not know. The first book you have to read is Redeeming Love. There are no words to express how amazing this book is. It is christian fiction...and did I mention it was amazing? Some of her other books I have read are: "The last sin eater", "The scarlet thread" and "and the Shofar Blew." I recommend "and the Shofar Blew"...especially if your church is about to go through a change or is in the process of growing and changing. This book will make you think about your purpose in what you are doing is, and for me at least, gave me a new found appriciation for our elder who question our desires and wants (or phase plans). I learned that we need our intentions questioned so that we don't self implode because we "think" we know the answers, or "what God would want." To me...questioning doesn't always mean that they don't want it done, they just want to make an educated decsion.

The first week of school

So I just finished my first week (actually 2 days) of the last semester of classes. So far this week I have taken 2 tests and 2 lab practicals. I passed the practicals, but the tests are still in the air.

A 3 hour tour...a 3 hour tour

I got back from FL last night and here is the one story I will tell. On Sunday we rented a pontoon boat to go out on. The first thing that is written on the map provided is DO NOT GO OUT INTO THE GULF. Well, the first thing we did was go out into the gulf. As we were out there we noticed that a storm was approaching. A full fleged, back hand of God Thunderstorm. We decided that we should probably move our location to like...not is the middle of its path. We started back toward to dock which is about a 10 min ride for all boats but ours. OUR boat had a max speed of around 5 mi/hr. It was so slow that a boat getting towed back in pasted us. OUR boat was so slow that another boat passed us that was idling while we were going full throttle. Lets just say that I could have swam the butterfly faster than what OUR 50 hp motor could push a fly. So, as we are trying to make it back to the dock all kinds of boats were passing us creating wakes that tossed our tiny ship to and fro. And yes, we were headed straight into the perfect storm. ......You know how you hear the thunder after you see the lightening...well not for us, the thunder was simultaneous with the lightening. The lightening was so close that we smelled grilled grouper. Did I mention that we were in a metal boat in the middle of the ocean? I gave up driving and got the life jackets out and hunkered down. The rain was so thick that you could not see 30 yards in any direction and it felt like cannon balls hitting you in the face...even though we were only going 5 mph. We did not make it back to the dock..we gave up and headed toward a beach. We ran the boat up on the shore and ran to safety. We made it out safe..thanks to the courage of the fearless crew or the pontoon would've been lost....except Cara who ran over a cactus barefoot.

My luck

I am cat sitting this weekend. The awesome thing is the family has a rad pool and I have been waiting all week to jump in. As we all know it has been 100 degrees and dry for like forever, oh but not today. It is still warm, but as my luck would have it...thunder storms for Nashville for the weekend. I am fixin to do the opposite of the rain dance.."rain, rain go away come again another day" dance. Don't think I won't go outsude and do it, cuz I will.
I guess i'll just sit here with my cute suite on and stare out the window.

Here are some photos

As I was packing I found random undeveloped film. Here are some pics from them..

This is (L-R) Marie, Amanda and Jess during class

This is the mtn that we climbed up (3 miles) in Colorado at Young life camp in 2003. At one point I could only take about 5 steps then I would have to take a break.

This is the North side of my parents house in Dyersburg as a storm is approaching.

This is Virginia and I at the top of the mtn in Colorado.

Leaving home...again

Well, it is time once again to bid Dyersburg farewell...farewell. I am almost done packing and then I am heading out. I am ready to get school over with, but not so excited to get back to studying, which I think is different from learning. Learning to me sounds fun, while studying sounds like work. Maybe if I look at it like learning I will look forward to it.
Anyway, this is the 6th summer of leaving i have done over my many, many college adventures. I should be my last. At least I hope so. Please God let it be.
I know that this town is boring, but I do get teary eyed every time I leave and I see it in the rearview mirror (I shouldn't cause as my track record shows I probably be back for an extended stay soon) but, it is not the building it is the people. I love you all!!
See ya Dyersburg.

Little things....

Little things amaze me somtimes...Like this for instance. I am watching Dawson's Creek. It is just a little drama that I have not watched faithfully since the first season in 1998, yet I find myself crying for one of the characters who is now dying. It is not a few tears, but the ugly face cry. I think that is why I like films so much...it allows you to feel, and sometimes come to face things your otherwise trying to push back.
